Job Interview

Following any job interview, it is good practice to send a thank you note within 24-48 hours after your interview. We recommend sending a personalized message to each person who was involved in your interview process. Be sure to get business cards or write down the names and emails of each person you meet with. Sometimes, you can request this information from the individual coordinating the interview schedule (don’t forget to thank them for coordinating your interview). Here is an example:

Dear Mr. Wells,

Thank you for taking the time to meet with me today. I am very excited about the opportunity to work at Indiana University!

I was especially excited to learn about how tour guides interact with prospective students and would love to share my passion for IU with visitors to campus.

I look forward to hearing back from you. If you have any additional questions, please contact me at 812-555-5555.

Career Fair

After attending a career fair where you met and talked with a professional representative of the organization, you may want to consider sending a thank you note. Here is an example:

Ms. Greenleaf,

Thank you for the opportunity to talk at the Career Exploration & Student Employment Fair on August 21. I appreciated learning you were also a psychology major at Indiana University.

I was very excited to learn of your vision and priorities for enhancing the customer service experience for customers, and I believe my experience in front-line guest services would make me a great fit for Bloomington Parks and Recreation.

I would love to connect regarding a potential career with Bloomington Parks and Recreation and look forward to hearing from you in the future. If you have any additional questions, please contact me at 812-555-5555.

Thank you spending time with me recently and sharing information regarding possible graduate programs I might consider while furthering my continued education in the field of Youth Leadership and Development.
