The Skills & Interests section can be beneficial to have a place to highlight your technology, language, and/or laboratory skills. Additionally, consider including any certifications you have in this section.
Format
Keep it simple and easy to find the information. Label the skill category (language, computer, or lab, for example) and provide a concrete skill.
Categories
Consider Language Skills, Computer Skills, and/or Lab Skills.
Language Skills
Basic Understanding:
One semester of a language. Limited but elementary understanding of the language
Literate:
Can read and write a language proficiently but cannot speak it well
Conversational:
Can speak proficiently but may not read or write well
Proficient:
Can read, write, and peak relatively well. Students who have recently completed two years of language study usually fall into this category, but not always.
Fluent:
Can read, write, and most importantly, speak the language at a conversational pace. Would you feel comfortable having a job interview in that language?
Fluent (Native Speaker):
Grew up reading, writing, and speaking that language. Understand the cultural origins and colloquialisms of that language.
Computer Skills
Include software, programming languages, and any other tools that may be relevant for the job.
Lab Skills
Include information about laboratory procedures or techniques you can conduct or equipment you can operate.
